Profile
Like so many of our T&G Scholars, Borngreat has overcome genuine hardship while finding a way to excel both academically and as a student leader.
He is one of six children, with two siblings also in college. His father remains in Nigeria and his mother works as a preschool teacher.
With a minor in cognitive science to complement his major in data science, Borngreat has a clear vision of the future. He hopes to obtain a PhD in data science with a view to contributing his skills and knowledge to the biotech and pharmaceutical industries to potentially develop life-saving treatments and improved patient outcomes. He is committed to social equity and “ultimately using data-driven insights to make the world a better place. This dual focus on innovation and community empowerment motivates every step of my academic and professional journey.”
His work as an undergraduate researcher at the Voytek Lab has allowed him to “contribute to cutting edge work on a neuro vision-language model,” blending his “passion for neuroscience with computational approaches.” Borngreat is also the external affairs officer for UCSD Triton NeuroTech, and was an intern with Oasis, where he tutored students in math. For him, this is one important way to give back in appreciation for the “support from mentors and role models who guided me on my educational journey.”
This summer he will be interning at Eli Lilly, where he looks forward to “translating the knowledge I have gained in the classroom and the lab into tangible contributions at Eli Lilly and beyond.”
Borngreat isn’t all tech all the time; he also loves music of many genres, and is inspired by reading some of the great philosophers such as Sartre, Camus and Dostoevsky. He is enrolled in Earl Warren College.
