Annie Nguyen

Annie has been completely on her own since high school. Receiving a Chancellor’s Scholarship was, in Annie’s words, “a beacon of hope amidst the darkness.” She was also awarded the Moss Adams Ignite Scholarship, established for diverse students based on their participation in extracurricular activities and community service.

Her extraordinary work ethic has allowed her to maintain perfect grades while holding down two part-time jobs on campus and pursuing a minor in accounting with an emphasis on business economics. As a Senior Orientation Leader, she assisted with the planning and implementation of orientation programs and designed, organized, and led the training for student orientation leaders. As a Retirement Resource Center student assistant, she assisted the Retirement and Emeriti Associations by managing much of the Center’s communications. Last summer she served as an intern at Moss Adams.

Annie also finds time to serve on the Sixth College Student Council, the Student Fees Advisory Committee and the Chancellor’s Scholars Alliance. Last year she earned the Sixth College Student Council Change Maker Award.

That determination also motivated her to take up running, despite some physical limitations, or as Annie put it, “I am no Usain Bolt. I am 5’3” with a family history of heart problems and a bow-legged deformity.” She believes that the training involved has not only made her physically stronger but has also honed her mental strength.

Annie describes the difficulties she faced finding her voice in a household that did not encourage her to express herself. As a result, she is determined to become an advocate for others. That goal is consistent with her desire to attend law school. During her internship with the District Attorney’s Office, she witnessed the obstacles many people face. Her personal mission is to be an advocate for people who struggle to be heard and often have difficulty obtaining legal representation.
