Noah Harvey

Noah is one of those talented young people who is strong in both the sciences and humanities. In high school he had assumed he would study engineering, but his love of art and his need to create was also pulling him in a different direction. His ability to integrate art and science has led him on a unique personal journey.

Like many successful UC San Diego students, his higher education career began at his local community college. At Sierra Community College he obtained Associate degrees in natural science, studio art, humanities, and arts and cultures. He also became president of the Sierra College Art Club and worked as an Education Specialist at ReCreate. In high school he was president of the robotics team where he developed teamwork skills while creating competitive robots.

He is currently employed as an art instructor both at ArtBeat San Diego and at Creative STEM, where he works with elementary school students. He is enrolled in Sixth College. On campus he is an officer in ArtSpark, and off campus he volunteers in the North Park Figure Drawing Group.

Noah has accomplished all of this while taking on major family responsibilities after his father was involved in a serious car accident. His caretaker duties included looking after his younger brother. He believes that this experience has taught him a great deal about compassion and patience. He explains that while his single parent father “cannot provide financial support, just love,” he has fond memories from childhood of drawing and sharing stories with his father, who “shared his optimism and hopes for a brighter future.”

He is also taking classes in International Studies, and hopes to obtain a master’s degree that would further his goal of working for an IGO or NGO. He is passionate about issues such as “human rights, preserving human life, food security, and environmental sustainability.” While working in that domain he also intends to continue to pursue his work as a new media artist.
