Laura Charria

Laura believes that we must first give before we can receive and feels alive when she can serve.  She is involved with other students at UC San Diego who are passionate about creating a more equitable world that takes into account the United Nation’s Sustainable Development goals, so that we can all work together to solve the world’s largest issues and help the community around us.

Because education is extremely important to Laura, she is glad she can volunteer at the Preuss School.  “With the right education and the right tools, we can build a better society with more well-rounded people who care about becoming changemakers.”  As an Education and Outreach Aid for Qualcomm Institute, she has learned how education should be accessible to everyone.  “Education is an enormous opportunity, and it is our responsibility to provide quality education for children, teenagers, adults, and grandparents.”

Friends are important to Laura because they inspire her to pursue meaningful challenges.  “I once read that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, and I have been fortunate enough to have grown up surrounded by people with big dreams and plans to make them real.”  Laura attributes all of her academic and personal achievements to her strong foundation of values.

As a Cognitive Science with Specialization in Design and Interaction major at Thurgood Marshall College, Laura looks forward to conducting research in the future about cognition and the brain and understanding how our environment affects who we are.  “The key to research is to ask endless questions to learn more each day.”  She is also a pre-med student and one day hopes to become a doctor that helps save lives and makes healthcare more accessible to everyone.
