Kaitlyn Rim

Most students at UC San Diego are happy to find one major that suits their goals.  Not Kaitlyn Rim, a double major in Education Sciences and Psychology with a minor in Linguistics at Revelle College. “With these three degrees working side-by-side, I am able to better understand all aspects of being a future educator.”

Kaitlyn has been teaching her whole life, following in the steps of her grandparents, who were both professors in China.  As a first-generation Chinese American and oldest sister, she knew she wanted to be an educator in a country that is foreign to her immigrant parents.  “I made it my mission to make my family’s journey to freedom worth it.”  Kaitlyn joined the Education Studies Student Association to connect with peers that have similar aspirations to her own. She works at the UC San Diego Early Childhood Education Center where she is able to teach and care for children ages four months to five years old, reminding her of when she taught her “younger brother and her collection of stuffed animals.”

In Kaitlyn’s first year at UC San Diego, she joined the Associated Student Office of Spirit and Athletics where she “fell in love with their passion and desire to bring students from different colleges with different interests together to lift the heavy weight which academics hold on students of such a prestigious university.”  She, alongside the coordinators, created an event centered around competition and enjoyment.  “Spring into Spring” was a big success, and she knew she wanted to expand her influence and become more involved.  Kaitlyn is now the Chief of Staff of Programming within the student government and knows that her time at Associated Students has just begun.

“I hope to fulfill the successful fantasy that my parents have always dreamed of for their children.  I hope to achieve the educational goals they created for themselves, but couldn’t because of their limited educational opportunities.”
