Structural Engineering :: General T&G Scholarship

Ramtin Azarbad

Immigrating to the United States from Iran as a high school student only left Ramtin a couple years in which to prepare for college. The Revelle College Structural Engineering major considers the UC San Diego Circle K student organization his second home. Ramtin was drawn to this international collegiate organization because it is devoted to helping universities join a global network of responsible citizens and leaders with a lifelong commitment to service. “I joined Circle K to be more active in community service, and eventually was elected as Vice President of Service. Being part of the board and collaborating with others gave me a great leadership experience.” His involvement taught him a greater appreciation for collaboration because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

What does Ramtin consider his biggest personal achievement of 2020, the most challenging year for the world? Leadership and confidence. Elected Vice President of Development for the Society of Civil and Structural Engineers at UC San Diego, he was involved in the planning and organizing for the career fair where he partnered with Jacobs School of Engineering and the Structural Engineering department on a joint event. He also organized career exploration week which was deemed helpful by the members in finding their desired Structural Engineering focus.

When not studying or planning his future, Ramkin would love to learn how to play the guitar and continue writing a story he is working on. “After taking Humanities courses in college, I came to the realization that everyone needs to satisfy their artistic side in a platform that they are comfortable with. For me, the platform has been music and writing.”
