Aman Shihora

Persistence is a trait Aman learned was vital in order to make a lasting impact on the world. Whether it be acquiring a new lab position or working through a difficult concept, his determination to keep trying has led the Revelle College Pharmacological Chemistry major to solutions to his problems. “My interests primarily concern new discoveries in all fields of study. Whether it be a new archaeological discovery, a new microbe that could be used in medicine, or a new galaxy millions of light-years away, I find these discoveries awe-inspiring and motivating.” Aman found the experience working in an undergraduate laboratory to be very informative and fulfilling in realizing his passion for research. He has become involved with the Pre-Pharmacy Society and the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers.

His strengths also include a readiness to try new things. “Whether the activity ranges from snowboarding to learning guitar, I do not shirk away from a challenge or new experience.” His passion also extends to the community where he joined Hearts Across Borders to help healthcare professionals assist and diagnose the underserved populations of Mexico in Tijuana.

Aman aspires to obtain a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry. “When I was 12 years old, my grandmother passed away from liver cancer. I learned that many of the therapeutics that were used did not alleviate the pain or help her symptoms. I hope to work in research and development to discover new medicines and treatments that will be accessible to all who have the ailment, no matter their social status or income. My passion is to solve these complex biological puzzles using therapies to help as many people as possible.”
